Black Sesame Seeds Laddu (Sweet balls) / Til ka Laddu

Black Sesame Seeds Laddu / Til ka Laddu is made using three main ingredients and they are Black Sesame Seeds, Jaggery and Peanuts. We Indians love to prepare sweets / sweet dishes during any festival throughout the year and also during any celebration like wedding, birthdays, etc. Black Sesame Seeds Laddu are prepared during Makar Sankranti, Ganesh Festival and on Saturdays during Shani puja.

In Maharashtra, people exchange Tilgul on Makar Sankranti (The Kite festival). Til means Black Sesame Seeds and Gul means Jaggery in Marathi language. The sweet balls or laddus prepared used these two ingredients is called Tilgul in Marathi. On Sankranti eve, families serve their guests with Tilgul while saying “Tilgul ghya, goad goad bola” which literally means “Take Tilgul and talk sweetly”.

To peel them off, lift some peanuts, rub them with both hands against each other. The peel comes off. To remove the peeled skin from the peanuts, winnow them. The light peel will come to the front of the plate. Remove the peels and collect the peeled Peanuts in a bowl.
