Dragon fruit plant is a cactus and is a tropical fruit that is native to Mexico, Central and South America. The dragon fruit is cultivated in East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the United States, the Caribbean, Australia, and throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

The super fruit is known as Dragon fruit due to its unique appearance with a leather-like skin and prominent scaly spikes on the fruit exterior.

This fruit is also known as Pitaya or Strawberry Pear. It is a tropical fruit with a magenta exterior and white or purple flesh that is speckled with seeds.

In India, farmers cultivate three main varieties (by colour): White flesh with pink skin, red flesh with pink skin and white flesh with yellow skin.

A ripe dragon fruit has a mildly sweet flavour often described as a blend of pear and kiwi, and has a soft texture similar to a ripe kiwi. Under-ripe dragon fruit, on the other hand, is flavourless.

It can be used to process many delicious drinks and dishes such as dragon fruit smoothie, dragon fruit juice,  dragon fruit milkshake, dragon fruit tea, dragon fruit cake, dragon fruit ice creams, dragon fruit jam, syrups …

METHOD:

Let’s begin to peel and chop the fruits.
This dragon fruit that I am first taking is one with a white flesh and pink skin.

This one is elliptical in shape and has long scales or ears that are green. That is how we recognise it.
Now cut its ends without wasting flesh.
Cut the fruit into two halves.

Here we see a white flesh inside. This fruit is sweet in taste but less. The amount of sugar is 10%.

Hold one half of the fruit, create a gap between the flesh and the skin with your thumb finger as shown. Slowly peel of the skin.

Similarly, peel the skin of the other half of the fruit.

Chop the fruit flesh into smaller chunks.

Here’s the chopped white dragon fruit.

Now we take another dragon fruit that has red flesh and pink skin.

Red dragon fruit has a round shape, ears and scales are turned towards the fruit stalk. The fruit is sweet in taste with 15% sugar. It is sweeter than white dragon fruit.
Cut the ends of the fruit.
Cut the fruit into two halves as shown.

Create a gap between the flesh and the skin using your thumb finger. Peel the skin.

Chop the flesh into smaller chunks.

Here’s the chopped red dragon fruit.

Put the chopped white dragon fruit chunks into the jar of the mixer grinder.

Add 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Add sugar as per your requirement.

Add half teaspoon of cardamom powder.

Add one scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Add 100 ml of cow’s milk. It’s boiled, cooled and chilled milk.

Cover the jar with its lid.

Blend the mixture for 10-20 seconds to form a smooth puree.

Add 100 ml of cow’s milk again.

Cover and blend for 15 seconds.

White dragon fruit milkshake is ready.

Pour the milkshake into tall serving glass.

Now repeat the process with red dragon fruit chunks.
